Nomination Deadline: October 17; positions begin January 1, 2026

The American Society of Addiction Nursing is accepting nominations for Board and Nominating Committee positions shown below.

Terms will begin in January 2026.

ASAN is seeking nominations for the following positions:

  • President Elect - This position will serve 1 year as President Elect beginning January 2026, then 2 years as President beginning January 2027.
  • Treasurer - 2 year term
  • Director at Large (2 vacancies) - 2 year term
  • LPN Director at Large (1 vacancy) - 2 year term
  • Nominating Committee (1 vacancy) - 2 year commitment

All positions will begin January 1, 2026

We encourage nominations of colleagues, mentors, mentees and of course, welcome and encourage self-nominations.

Nominees will be asked to submit an election statement describing the reasons for seeking this position. Nominees will be asked complete a conflict of interest form. 

The ASAN Board of Directors meetings occur monthly via zoom. They are currently held on the 2nd Monday of each month from 8-9pm eastern.

Qualifications:

  • Any licensed Nurse who is a member in good standing is eligible for nomination.
  • The nominee for President Elect should demonstrate service of at least one year on the ASAN Board or a Board of a similar organization.
  • The nominee should demonstrate that they have been a good citizen to the society as demonstrated by participation in activities related to the society.

Duties of the President Elect:

  • The president elect shall be elected and serve one (1) two year-term and will automatically succeed to one (1) two-year term as president.
  • The president-elect, in the absence of the president, shall exercise the powers of the president. The president elect shall perform such duties as may be assigned by the president.
  • These duties shall be such as to allow the president elect to acquire a thorough understanding of the business of ASAN and the duties of the office of the president.

Duties of the President:

  • The president shall serve one (1) two-year term as the chief executive officer of the society and shall, in general, supervise and control the affairs of the society.
  • The president shall preside at all meetings of the board of directors.
  • The president shall also serve as an ex-officio member on all committees except the nominating committee.

Duties of the Director at Large:

  • Attend and participate in board meetings.
  • Provide direction and guidance to the President and officers of ASAN.
  • Uphold the mission and values of ASAN. Strongly encouraged to volunteer or accept committee leadership assignments.

Duties of the Treasurer:

  • The treasurer shall be chair of the finance committee.
  • The treasurer shall be the custodian of the society’s funds.; ensure that all monies designated for ASAN are appropriately deposited. 
  • The treasurer shall approve distribution of the funds of the society in accordance with the budget adopted by the board of directors. 
  • With assistance from the executive office, the treasurer shall provide an accurate accounting of all transactions and develop a budget for the fiscal year.

Duties of the Nominating Committee:

  • The nominating committee shall review nominees and recommend a slate of candidates to submit to the Board of Directors.

Key Dates and Nomination Information:

  • Nominations due by 17-October.
  • The ballot voting period will be 27-October to 14-November.
  • Election announcements will be emailed in late November.
  • Successful candidates will take their positions on 1-January-2026.
