Who We Are

ASAN is the only national professional nursing society with full membership open to ALL nurses who work in the field of addictions; have a special interest in working effectively with this population; and/or who are in recovery.

ASAN’s focus is on advocacy and support, not only for the clients we serve, but the nurses who give of themselves everyday to improve the lives of those they serve. Whether you work in a treatment center/clinic, Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT), a hospital, or the community, we are all joined by our never wavering commitment to care for those suffering from addictions.

ASAN believes every nurse is an addictions nurse. Addictions pervades our society and our treatment environments. We invite you to learn more about our society and how together we can educate and engage nurses across all specialties.

Regular Membership

Open to nurses (RN, LPN, LVN, etc) who are concerned with or engaged in prevention, screening, intervention and treatment of persons across all nursing specialties affected by the use of substances and other addictions.

1-year Membership: $50 (auto recurring renewals available)

Regular members may serve on committees, vote and hold office. 

Organizational Membership

Open to cooperative/supporting organizations that hold a foundational interest in the care of persons served.

1-year Membership: $5,000 (auto recurring renewals available)

Organizational members may serve on committees but may not vote or hold office. 

Retired Membership

Open to any nurse who is retired.

1-year Membership: $25 (auto recurring renewals available)

Retired members may serve on committees, vote and hold office. 

Student Membership

Open to individuals enrolled in full times studies or enrolled in a nursing education program.

1-year Membership: $25

Student members may serve on committees but may not vote or hold office. 

Affiliate Membership

Open to persons or entities who are concerned with addictions nursing as the board of directors may determine.

1-year Membership: $50 (auto recurring renewals available)

Affiliate members may serve on committees but may not vote or hold office.
