Alcohol Use, Abuse and Eventual Abstinence: My Unexpected Journey

Learner Objectives:

  1. Apply three overt risk factors for substance use and misuse to their specific work environment.
  2. Learn and recall three non-addictive medications available to nurses at risk for relapse of Alcohol use disorder and analyze variables that will increase the success of each medication.
  3. Identify and gain the capacity to evaluate three supportive resources available to support nurses in recovery or striving for recovery. 

Presenter Bio:

Bill Carrick is a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse and the current President of the American Society of Addiction Nursing. An RN since 1981 with a focus on Mental Health and Substance Use Nursing since 1983. He received his CARN in 2009. He has inpatient experience with withdrawal management and medical detoxification as a staff nurse, nurse manager and program director. And experience in outpatient detox for the past fifteen years as the founder of Executive Recovery Coach, Inc., Executive Home Detox®. He has been alcohol free for the past 34 years and is familiar with self-help programs.
