Nursing Your Career in Addiction Recovery: Find Your Best Job and Get Paid What You’re Worth

Presented by

  • MaryAnne C. Murray, DNP, EdD, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, CARN-AP; Smart Moves Integrated Health Services; Ilwaco, Washington

Description

Addiction Nurses fill a highly specialized niche in the health care world. At all levels of training and licensure, we offer important knowledge and expertise to safely bring our patients through the dangers and discomforts of withdrawal, and guide them in the challenging processes of physical and mental health restoration. While saving lives through our work, we also need to care for ourselves and our families so that we can do our work with passion and joy. So, in this webinar we will examine options for identifying our workplace needs and wants, marketing our skills, and negotiating optimal remuneration.

Learner Objectives

  1. Identify nursing skills which are particular to the specialty of Addiction Recovery.
  2. Detail the components of a Professional Nursing Portfolio to market their skills and knowledge.
  3. Cite resources for determining market value of their skills, sources for finding jobs in Addictions Nursing, and considerations in evaluating goodness-of-fit for a prospective position.

Presenter

Dr. MaryAnne Murray trained in Addiction Studies at Seattle University, then provided mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) care in an HIV/AIDS clinic during nursing school. While managing a hospital-based detox unit and treatment program for pregnant persons with addictions, she trained other health professionals to provide addiction care. Dr. Murray has worked in residential treatment, rural primary care, a Methadone program, and served eight years at a rural, remote community mental health center where she created a Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) program. She currently precepts Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner students for multiple universities in Washington State and beyond.
