According to SAMHSA’s latest National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the number of pregnant women with opioid use disorder (OUD) has more than doubled and the number of infants born with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) has grown fivefold. (SAMHSA 2017). This webinar aims to educate the audience in determining the population-based risk of substance use disorder (SUD), assist in identifying culturally competent risk assessment strategies for SUD detection and identify self-assessment tools for use in evaluation of substance use disorder as well as provide resources for childbearing women who are identified as being at risk for SUD.

Learner Objectives

  1. Determine the population-based risk of substance use disorder.
  2. Identify culturally competent risk assessment strategies for substance use disorder detection.

Presenters

Toni is a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) and has worked in the field of substance use disorders, maternal-child health, and pediatrics for over twenty years. Her experience has been primarily in substance use disorder treatment including MAT; inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation and maternal child health. She is most proud of her work in the field of Substance Use Disorders and Maternal Child Health. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nu Eta Chapter and American Society of Addiction Nursing. Board appointments to Addiction Nursing Certification Board (ANCB) 2020- present; Cumberland County Mental Health and Addictions Board-2022-present. State appointment to New Jersey Maternal Mortality Review Committee (NJMMRC)-(2020 to present). She has presented nationally on numerous topics related to substance use disorders and also published various journal articles. She graduated from Rowan University-Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Drexel University-Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). She is currently pursuing a Post-Master’s Doctorate in Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania.

Rosemary is certified in addiction nursing and PMHNP-BC. Her experience includes Fetal Alcohol Risk Reduction, FDA study drug coordinator LAMM, methadone maintenance, and detoxification. She has served as director of nursing for a therapeutic community and freestanding detox center in New Jersey. Rosemary has facilitated peer assistance meetings for RAMP, New Jersey’s alternative to discipline program, and is currently appointed to the RAMP oversite committee. She is employed as an adjunct professor at Georgian Court University & Monmouth University in New Jersey, educating prelicensure and graduate nursing students on Psychiatry and evidence-based mental health. Rosemary is employed as a PMHNP-BC at New Hope Integrated Behavioral Health in Marlboro, NJ. She is a member of numerous nursing organizations. She serves as President of the Addiction Nursing Certification Board (ANCB). Rosemary presents nationally on the role of nursing in treating substance use disorders and the importance of certification in this specialty. Rosemary promotes nursing as a profession and addiction nursing as a specialty and believes nurses are our untapped resource in combating the disease of addiction.
