We review descriptors related to addiction and its treatment. We also examine issues related to the intoxication and withdrawal syndromes for alcohol and opiates. Learner Objectives: Describe the final common pathway for reward and pleasure. Define the term Tolerance as it relates to drug addiction. Describe contemporary theories/models of drug addiction.
